Painting and Remodeling in Chatham
Chatham is really two towns. Chatham Borough, around Main Street and the train station, is mostly older homes on smaller lots: colonials, Tudors, Victorians and cape cods, many of them a century old or close to it. Chatham Township, stretching toward the Great Swamp, has more space and larger, newer colonials on wooded lots. We work in both, and the projects we see in each are quite different.
In the Borough: Older Homes, Careful Work
In the older homes near the village, the work is usually about keeping character while making the house work for today. That can mean repairing plaster and repainting original trim, adding wainscoting in a dining room that never had it, or updating a kitchen that was last done decades ago. Many older homes also have more layers of paint outside than anyone remembers, which makes exterior prep the most important part of the job.
In the Township: Bigger Rooms, Bigger Updates
In the township, homes built from the 1960s onward tend to have larger rooms, two-story foyers and family rooms with high ceilings, and kitchens that are due for their first real update. Painting a whole interior, cabinet painting and full kitchen remodels are the most common projects there.

FAQ
Questions From Chatham Homeowners
Yes. They are separate towns with their own rules and permit offices, and we work in both. If your project needs a permit, we will tell you which office it goes through.
Yes. Wainscoting, picture frame molding and new trim are some of our most popular carpentry jobs, and in an older house we match the profiles and proportions of the existing woodwork so it looks original.
Exterior season in New Jersey runs from late spring into the fall, and it fills up. Getting your estimate in the winter or early spring gives you the best choice of dates.
